icky thump…who’da thunk?

Jack White drawingOh the White Stipes.  I think that anyone who doesn’t like the White Stripes just isn’t living.  I mean are you dead man, seriously?  I’ve seen them live at the Orpheum and they are no joke, just a kick ass rock n’ roll act. Damn, can Jack White play the guitar! He was voted the 17th best guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone’s 100 greatest guitar players, pretty amazing considering how long they’ve been around.  Also, Meg White is super hot watching her drum.  I think my friends and I were in a trance watching her jump up and down on the bass drum pedestal , ahh she’s mesmerizing me!

How would I describe the White Stripes in a nutshell?  I’m trying to narrow down words but I guess it’s like the saying: “a picture is worth a thousand words”.  Well, I think their music is worth a thousand ears!  I’d describe them as raw, rockin’, unfiltered, simplistic, catchy, myserious, eccentric, mischievious, true, eclectic, refined, unrefined, old-school.  To me, watching and hearing Jack play the guitar is like a baseball pitcher in the 9th inning of a shutout game, just a master at his craft at his best!  The whole White Stripes thing is a little mysterious, they keep you guessing.  Jack kind of reminds me of Johnny Depp, a person that stays true to what he wants to do with his craft in a mysterious and eccentric way.  And then there is Meg, nothing flashy but that’s just what she is and what Jack wants her to bring to the band.  Nothing more, nothing less.  We all know that Jack is the mastermind behind this operation.  He writes, produces, and does the artwork for the band. I also love that he brings back some of the greatest music, blues and rock n’ roll. Mad props for my man Jack White.

I usually don’t post many serious things but you gotta check out this new album, I think it’s going to kick ass.  I’ve been waiting for this one for awhile.  Did you know that he recorded this album in 3 weeks which is the longest time that he’s taken to record as of yet?  CHECK OUT THIS ALBUM, it comes out on Tuesday, 06.19.07.

Here are two vids, both recorded live at the Jools Holland show. One is them playing their single, icky thump, and the other one is an interview with jack later in the show.

Look for another post about the album in the coming days, I’ve been working on this post for awhile and have a lot of material to post about. For a really good article on the White Stripes check out the Rolling Stones article, here is a couple of links:

  1. Wow. This is stunning. That interview w/ Jack was amazing. I also find it interesting how he never talks to Meg in the studio. And this…” Jack kind of reminds me of Johnny Depp, a person that stays true to what he wants to do with his craft in a mysterious and eccentric way.”…that is so true. They even look a bit alike!
